Hope and Trauma in a Poisoned Land
These three pendants were created for the “HOPE+TRAUMA in a Poisoned Land” exhibit at the Coconino Center for the Arts, Flagstaff, AZ (August 15-October 28, 2017). This exhibit explored the devastating impact of uranium mining on the Navajo Nation.
Uranium mined from the Navajo Nation was used to create the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan during August of 1945.
Awareness, to see things as they are
Action, to change what is not right
Celebration of Life, to live in a meaningful way
Artists in this exhibit advocated the allocation of funds for the clean-up of the abandoned uranium mines on the Navajo Nation.
